Natura New Music Alert: Charlotte’s Own Stephfon “Famous”

“ I’m that dude that’s trying to change your perspective on the R&B act period”

Originally from California, but currently holding down Charlotte, NC with great R&B music, Stephfon Wade is in a league of his own.  Stepping on the scene in January 2012 with his hit single “That Guy” (listen here), he has made it his mission to bring back that “feel good” music, while putting Charlotte, NC on the map.  If you fell in love with  “ That Guy”, I know you will love his new single “ Famous”,

off  his debut album Rhythm& Me ( set to be released July 2013).  I interviewed Stephfon just last year when he released his first single, and I must say I can definitely see the growth in his music and I love the direction that he’s taking R&B music.   I got in contact with Stephfon recently, and here is his response behind his inspiration for “Famous”.

Naturalia: What inspired you to write Rhythm & Me?

Stephfon:   I tried to write the best love song ever! It was inspired from all the great relationships I’ve had, and the emotions that love brings.

I love this song !!

Check out “Famous” here and let me know what you think?… Is he holding it down for Charlotte, NC ?

Check Out Wale’s New Album “The Gifted”

With his # 1 single ” Bad” ft. Tiara Thomas, Wale is back with another hit single off his

upcoming album ” The Gifted”.  I have been a fan of Wale’s since he released his

” More About Nothing” mix tape in 2008.  I fell in love with his poetic rhymes, and his

ability to express reality through his raps.  I would consider him to be one of the best

rappers in the game, because he breaks the mold of the usual rapper who only talks about

money, cars, and degrading women.  His lyrics go deeper than that, and as a fan of real

Hip-Hop music, I appreciate that.  His new album ” The Gifted”  hit stores today, so

make sure that you support and  go cop that.  Also check out his new single

” Love Hate Thing”, and let me know what you think.

New Music Alert: Ciara’s “Body Party” Remix ft. Future + B.O.B

After topping several Billboard charts, and millions of hits on Youtube with her hot new

single ” Body Party”, Ciara is back with the remix ft. her boo-thang (Future) and B.O.B .

Sampling Ghost Town DJ’s ” My Boo”, the remix is an uptempo of the original “Body Party”,

and Future + B.O.B add a nice flare to the song. I just love Ciara and Future together, they’re

like the perfect balance. But any who….. check out the remix and the behind the scene

footage of the making of ” Body Party” and let me know what you think.

New Single: Tamar Braxton ” The One”

I must admit I was a little leary about Tamar’s singing talents at first, but after hearing

“Love After War” I’ve been a fan ever since.  Sampling Mtume’s ” Juicy Fruit”, Tamar does it

again with her hit new single ” The One”.  This song is hot ..hot.. hot !! I know I definitely

will be bumping this in the honda this summer.   Check it out and let me know what you think!!

Drake’s new single “Girls Love Beyonce”

By Brande Victorian

Because we don’t hear about Beyonce  enough, Drake has given us this precious new gift by way of a song with the  singer’s moniker in the title that has absolutely nothing to do with her.  Confused? So are we. The most emo rapper around — arguably — has just dropped a  new random track called “Girls Love Beyonce” and it’s clear he’s back on that LL  Cool J “I Need Love” tip.

Here are the opening lyrics:

I know girls love Beyonce, girls love to f**k with your conscious

Girls hate when ni**as go missing and shorty you ain’t no different

These days it’s hard to meet women,  I feel like my love life is finished. I’ve been avoiding commitment, that’s why  I’m in this position. I’m scared to let somebody in on this, no new friends, no  no no no.

You know how this s**t goes. You got all these admirers that call your phone.  You try to act like it’s just me but I am not alone. But if you’re alone, say my  name say my name if no one is around you, say baby I love you…

I mean, he’d be better off naming the song “Destiny’s Child” since he sampled  the whole chorus from their 1999 song. Oh and of course,  you know he’s rap-singing those lines, although he brought along  singer James Fauntleroy to help with the hook.

Overall, it’s a decent, typically emotional “I need a girl” Drake track that  I’m sure will get plenty of play from the ladies — despite the odd name.

Check out the song below and tell us what you think. Would you pass or  play

New J. Cole ” Power Trip” Video

They say, “Love can make you do some crazy things,” but J. Cole took it to the extreme in his new video for “Power Trip” featuring Miguel.

In the song, J. Cole raps about having the blues over a long lost love who he can’t get over, and she’s got him sprung and his nose wide open. In the video, he’s sitting in a car with one of his boys outside of her house, (basically stalking) while watching her with her new man, played by Miguel. From there, we take a trip with a distraught J. Cole and his homeboy through the streets of their town and down into the woods… and you’ll just have to watch the video to find out what happens next. [If we haven’t already spoiled it! ]

My mouth literally hit the floor, but you kind of know what you sign up for as soon as the message, “This video contains imagery that may be disturbing to some viewers. Parental discretion is advised” flashes across the screen in the beginning.

If you are a J. Cole fan, then you know he’s most-known for his storytelling in his lyrics. MTV points out that in the song, he spits the lyric, “I had a thing for you, I even wrote the song ‘Dreams’ for ya,” and on the actual track, “Dreams” from his 2009 mixtape, he raps about a girl he barely knows and begins to dream up a plot to murder her boyfriend. A few lines of the song include, “I’ma follow in my car, I’ma cut in front of his/ Run him right into the wall, maybe even off the bridge/ I give her a little time, then console her while she crying.” It’s interesting to see how he used lyrics from an old track as inspiration for his new video.

Esperanza Spalding: Song For A ‘City Of Roses’

by John Kin

Esperanza Spalding has often said that she hopes to use the fame from her 2011 Best New Artist Grammy to help give her friends and mentors in the jazz world the recognition they deserve. She got her chance earlier this month, when Spalding and her longtime teacher and mentor, trumpeter Thara Memory, accepted the Grammy for their arrangement of “City of Roses” from Spalding’s 2012 album Radio Music Society.

Spalding started studying with Memory as an 8-year-old jazz prodigy, and credits his instruction with giving her a foundation in music. Memory went on to create the American Music Program, a magnet school which has been credited with training a new generation of jazz players — including Spalding and saxophonist Hailey Niswanger.

“City of Roses” is a celebration of Spalding’s hometown of Portland, Ore. For the recording, Spalding wanted to showcase the city’s jazz scene and the power of mentorship.
