Groupon is a great resource that you should be using if you don’t know about it already, and here’s why:
DISCLAIMER: I am not being paid or compensated in anyway to endorse Groupon. This is an unsolicited piece stating my opinion based on my experiences as a subscriber of Groupon.
For starters, Groupon is free to sign up and there are no additional fees for paying with a credit card or shipping. As a virtual marketplace, Groupon’s goal is to connect customers (i.e. subscribers) with local businesses. So, I think Groupon’s most valuable and simplest asset is that there are actual savings on various products and services starting at 25% off and more! Everyone likes to save money, so it’s worth checking out.
Personally, I cringe when I think about Black Friday Shopping so when it ramps up again so soon for Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/New Years Eve–I tend to avoid going to the stores unless I absolutely have to this time of year. Groupon is great because you can avoid the in-store shopping madness while having a great variety at your fingertips. With many local and national businesses on Groupon there is something for everyone. And unlike a giftcard, Groupon allows one to purchase an experience-based gift, which is more personalized and relevant to millennials. Even if you’ve already completed your holiday shopping, there are plenty of dining, classes, and unique experience based offers for bae’s birthday, various celebrations, trying out a new hobby, or simply treating yourself.
3) Nationwide and Local Offers
Imagine this scenario: You’re living in Texas, but your mom is back in Pennsylvania— What and how will you surprise her with a birthday gift? Groupon allows you to purchase a giftcard or specific service/treatment in a salon near her without having to go in person or send a sibling to covertly buy it for you. If you think about it, Groupon could save a lot of time and prevent unnecessary stress. If you’re into the “Small Business Saturday Movement”, Groupon has businesses and merchants both large and small.
4) Simple but meaningful gift giving
Groupon makes personalized gift giving easy especially for that hard to shop for individual in your life (lord help us) because you can a) download your voucher to give in-person or mail OR b) directly email it (for those who are looking to be kind to trees). Once again I stress: Just think about how much time, energy, and money you’ll save by not having to wrap, ship, or use gas by shopping with Groupon.
From my personal experience, I’ve never had any problems with Groupon’s website. It is easy to use and I’ve never had any concerns over my personal data or payment information. That being said, you should be watching your finances regardless of where you shop because fraudulent credit card charges are no joke. Also, in my personal experience that business owners get excited when they discover you’re using a Groupon because it means they are reaching new customers. So, they’ll pay some extra attention and up their customer service. VIP treatment for all!
